When you are not ready for the camping trip to be over… S’mores Instant Oatmeal was inspired by our gateway a few weeks back.
I love s’mores; however, I don’t eat them often because we don’t have a fire pit in our backyard. So when we have a chance to use one, I go all in! After my evening dose of s’mores, I wasn’t ready to say goodbye just yet. I decided it’s a perfect excuse to incorporate them into my breakfast. The only difference in my camping version of s’mores oats is that I actually fried the marshmallows before adding them into my oats. It tasted amazing!! Creamy oats, chewy marshmallows, and crunchy crackers made a perfect combination… Best camping breakfast ever!
You can also add some chopped fruits if you want to make it a bit more nutritious.
Even though you might think this is not the healthiest option for breakfast (or any meal), I still think it’s healthy. Why? First, it’s homemade, and for me, everything that comes from my kitchen is healthier than from a package. Second, diet is all about balance. It is healthy to eat chocolate cake, as well as it is healthy to eat a salad. What’s unhealthy is eating mostly cakes, or mostly salads. Balance is the key to a healthy diet. And I think this S’mores Instant Oatmeal brings this balance 🙂 So dig the diet thinking and enjoy a bowl of s’mores.

how to make a healthier version?
With a few small changes, you can change this breakfast into a bit healthier option. I have not found a really healthy option for graham crackers in stores. If you are looking for a better alternative, I would recommend making your own whole-wheat crackers. I have not tried making them myself yet, so I can’t share a recipe, but tons of recipes are out there.
For the chocolate morsels, use the unsweetened or semi-sweet option. The oatmeal is sweet enough to use unsweetened morsels; it will still taste great!
is instant oatmeal better with milk or water?
Personally, I always make my oats with milk. I wouldn’t say I like the taste and texture of oats made with water. Milk gives the oatmeal a more rich taste and creamy texture. You can go even step further and add a bit of yogurt to make it even more creamy. I am all about the creaminess 😀 However, it is totally up to you. I would recommend trying both versions and see which one you like better.
