Northstar Lodge, located at the base of the world-renowned Northstar California ski area in Truckee, California, is a ski-in/ski-out resort, complete with its own unique, pulse-driven gondola. Featuring exclusive exteriors with native materials for a naturally weathered appearance, while luxuriously warm appointments set the mood within creating a high-alpine sensibility. All suites feature high-end amenities, including designer stainless steel appliances and ranch house style interiors. Other amenities include a private owner’s lounge, media theater, ski and boot valet (winter).
Northstar Lodge is a Welk Resort (timeshare) property located North East of Lake Tahoe. You can book the property with your Welk Resort Platinum Rewards Points or via numerous travel sites, which don’t require you to be an owner.
What I love about Welk properties is that you always get a fully equipped kitchen and also a washer and dryer. That always makes travel easier, and also cheaper. You don’t have to eat out every day, you can go shopping and cook. Speaking of groceries, there is a Safeway just 10 minutes away.
Northstar lodge has a wide variety of suites available. You can get a studio, two bedroom, three bedroom or five bedroom suite. We booked a 2 bedroom/ 2 bathroom suite, you can see the layout here. All suites come with a kitchen, fully equipped with glasses, plates, bowls, bbq tools, pots and pans.
You will also find a coffee maker, toaster, blender and hand mixer. I’m pretty sure it has everything you need – even martini glasses 😀
The suite is really spacious. When you enter you will see the kitchen, living room, and dining table.
All the rooms have a fireplace plus there is one more on the balcony. Bedrooms are on opposite sides of the suite and both come with big bathrooms – double sink, bathtub, and shower.
P.S. There is a free-standing bathtub in the master bedroom 😉
In the kitchen area, you will find a washer and dryer. With a small pack of laundry powder and dryer sheets. There is an additional pack under the sink.
In the bathroom, you will find a double sink, shower, and a bathtub.
You can access the balcony from the living room and from the master bedroom. And you will another fireplace out there! It makes the outside and morning coffees a bit cozier. There is a table and a set of chairs that lets you enjoy the outdoors.
They are multiple bbq’s, jacuzzi and a pool – all open year long (and heated!!!) so don’t forget to pack your swimsuit.
In the Lodge/common space, you can find a computer and a printer, maps, fireplaces inside and a firepit outside.
The Village is full of restaurants, shops, winter sport rental, an ice rink and really everything you may need during your stay at Northstar Lodge.
If you are new into skiing/snowboarding or have no clue how to do it you will be happy to know they offer private and group classes.
Big Springs Gondola is located in One Place Village. The Gondola takes you from the Village at Northstar to The Lodge at Big Springs. From there you have access to multiple slops.
If your significant other is not into winter sports, you may treat her/him for a spa treatment at the Village.
One of the few places that were open when we arrived was Starbucks.
Below is a map of One Place Village. It shows why Northstar Lodge by Welk is a fantastic choice for anybody who wants to enjoy winter sports. One Place Village has everything you need for a short or long winter vacation. Multiple lifts are located here and you can easily and quickly get to the base of the mountain from where you can start skiing or snowboarding.
I have to say the resort is really nice. The amenities are great, there is so much to do, and you have a sky lift right where you are. As much as I enjoyed our time in the resort I would recommend going during the winter season. When we arrived the place was empty, most of the restaurants were closed, and there was not much going on. If you plan to visit Lake Tahoe during the summer (which is gorgeous and you should totally do it) you might look into other (cheaper) options. Northstar is a place where you want to go skiing but not necessarily for summer activities. Be sure to book in advance as it gets crazy busy during the winter season!
