Getaway House

Getaway House was our first experience with tiny homes. We’ve never stayed in a tiny home before, and we were very excited about this new adventure.

What is Getaway House?

Getaway House, or should I say houses, are tiny homes located in the outskirts of bigger cities. There are many locations throughout the US. The mission of the … is to unplug and connect with nature, each other, and/or yourself. Designed to be an escape from the everyday life rush.

The cabins are self-catering, meaning you check in and out all by yourself. Which is kind of perfect these days. They come with pretty much everything you might need, minus the food. They are equipped with dishes, paper, trash bags, towels, books, games, wood, lighter.

You might also get a smore’s kit! We got it the first time we visited the cabin, but not the second time. Which was a bummer, because we didn’t include it in our grocery shopping before arriving to the cabin. And this girl likes her smores!

Each house has a huge window that is facing towards the woods, water, etc. It is usually private enough for you to keep the shades up and enjoy the view.

Location.

The tiny home we stayed at is located in Asheboro, North Carolina. A small town, known mostly for Zoo.

Other locations:

  • Atlanta, GA
  • Austin, TX
  • San Antonio, TX
  • Dallas, TX
  • Houston, TX
  • Boston, MA
  • Charlotte,
  • Washington DC
  • Los Angeles, CA
  • New York, NY
  • Pittsburg-Cleveland
  • Portland, OR

How about Wi-Fi?

It is true there is no Wi-Fi, however, you will still have a signal. At least we did. Which was good and bad. I wish there would be no way to connect to the internet at all.

The cabin has a special box to leave your phones in, so you are not tempted to touch them. It is a great idea, and we put our phones in as soon as we arrived. However, we did use them to take pictures and play music. I would recommend bringing a speaker and a camera if you want to truly forget about your phone. If that’s not an option for you, you can turn off all the notifications and put your phone on ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode.

If you are looking for a delicious breakfast idea, I highly recommend trying this S’mores Instant Oatmeal. With the fire toasted marshmallows is a bomb!

Getaway House is a perfect place to relax, rest, and find balance. It’s a great way to unplug, exhale, and get away from the grind of everyday life, even if only for a little while.

It’s definitely one of my favorite spots in the ares and I can’t wait to go back!
