Banana-Chocolate Treats – Forks Over Knives

Today I am trying a recipe that I found in Forks Over Knives magazine – Banana-Chocolate Treats. I made slight, or maybe not, that slight modifications to this recipe. In the original recipe, they use Grape-Nuts cereal, which I, to be honest, never tried. Hence, I didn’t have any in my pantry, and you know how much I love using the stuff that I already have 🙂

That’s why for my version of Banana-Chocolate Treats – Forks Over Knives instead of the cereal, I used hazelnuts. I also made a few with shredded coconut, just to try. And I have to say I liked the coconut ones better
😀 So if you want to swap hazelnuts for the coconut I get it 😉

Another change that I made is that those treats are meant to be frozen, at least in the original recipe. However, I kept them in a fridge after freezing them. It just worked better for me. I honestly didn’t see a reason for keeping them in a freezer. I didn’t make them taste better, so I decided not to do that.

Forks over Knives is a magazine I go back to quite often. I like to try to twist their recipes. Some of them, like these Banana-Chocolate Treats, are great! Even if you are not vegan or plant-based.

Yields20 Servings

  cup unsweetened cacao powder
 ½ cup plant milk
 ¼ cup maple syrup
 2 bananas
 2 cups oats
 50 g hazelnuts

1

In a food processor blend the hazelnuts until you get smaller pieces. Set aside.

2

In the same food processor combine cacao powder, milk, maple syrup, and banana. Process until well combines. Transfer mixture to a large bowl. Add oats and mix well.

3

Line a baking sheet with paper.

4

Using a small spoon, scoop a small chocolate ball and drop it into hazelnuts. Roll the ball to cover completely with hazelnuts. Gently placed the ball on the baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining chocolate mixture.

5

Place the baking sheet in the freezer until treats are frozen. Transfer treats to an airtight container. You can store them either in the freezer or fridge.
